Mike Battles

Athletic Director/Head Football Coach

 

Coach Battles is entering his third year as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at TallasseeHigh School. Coach Battles graduated from Wellborn High School in Anniston, AL in 1990, where he was an All-State football player and selected as the State Player of the Year in class 5-A. He also was selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game in which Alabama won. He signed a football scholarship with Samford University where he was a four-year letterman and received the Kenny Morgan Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. During his tenure, Samford had the winningest season in school history going 12-2 and making it to the National Semi-finals. Coach Battles graduated in 1995 with a B.S. in Science. He worked at Oak Grove for one year and then at Pascagoula High in Mississippi for one year before returning to Oak Grove as the Athletic Director & Head Football Coach in 1997. While at Oak Grove he was chosen twice as Coach of the Year by the Birmingham News and Jefferson County Coaches Association. He has also served as President of the Jefferson County Coaches Association 2004-2005. Coach Battles left Oak Grove the winningest coach in school history. After 11 years at Oak Grove, Coach Battles was named Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Bibb County High in the spring of 2008. In four years at BibbCounty, Coach Battles’ teams were 46-6 making it as far as the semi-finals in 2010. Bibb County won three straight undefeated Region Championships and twice finished the regular season 10-0. Coach Battles was chosen as the 2009 ALFCA State Coach of the Year. He was again chosen in 2010 as the Alabama Sports Writers State Coach of the Year.  The Tallassee Tigers finished 9-3 this past year and following the season Coach Battles was chosen as The Dr. Jim Maloy Coach of the Year by the Montgomery Quarterback Club. Coach Battles has a career 134-61 record. Coach Battles and his wife Tara have been married for 15 years. Tara is a 6th grade teacher at SouthsideMiddle School. They have two sons, Thomas (12), and Mason (8).
